1.Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

When you wake up in the morning, it's likely that you haven't eaten for up to 12 hours. So the first meal of the day is important, because it helps refuel the body and brain after a night's sleep.

It helps replace energy your body uses while sleeping.

Breakfast suggestions:
*cereal with milk and chopped bananas *brown wholegrain bread and
*freshly squeezed fruit juice.

2. Remember The Five A Day Rule!

Eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. For example:
freshly squeezed fruit juice, raw carrots,vegetables or salad we must include in our meal daily.

3.Foods containing carbohydrates

*All vegetables have some carbohydrates. Starchy vegetables are good sources of complex carbohydrates.
 *Grains are an important source of carbohydrates, as they contain healthy fiber.Eat brown rice, nutrient-rich whole-grain breads, millet and oatmeal.
*Fruits are also good source of carbohydrates.Use fruits that are frozen or canned in their own juice rather than syrup. Serve fruit with lunch, and have a piece of fruit for a snack. Fruits high in fiber such as apples at 19 g, oranges at 15 g and raw pineapple at 19 g of carbohydrates are good choices.
*You can find carbohydrates in both beans and dairy products. Dairy products such as milk and yogurt contain simple carbohydrates, and beans contain complex carbohydrates

4. Calcium

Milk, yogurt and cheese are very high in calcium. Other good sources include calcium enriched orange juice, rice beverages, and soy beverages.

5.Protein helps to repair the body

From hair to fingernails, protein is a major functional and structural component of all our cells. Protein provides the body with roughly 10 to 15 per cent of its dietary energy, and is needed for growth and repair.

 Foods containing protein:
Meat, poultry, fish, shellfish and eggs
Pulses, nuts and seeds
Soya products and vegetable protein foods

6.Fats are an important source of energy for growth, but remember we should only eat small amounts of this food group!

7.Recommended daily intake of water is between eight and ten cups.

Our bodies lose water everyday, so it's important that we replace the fluid that is lost, especially before and after exercising and during hot weather.
