Justin Bieber will be at next week's CES 2012 to introduce the new Tosy entertainment robot. Some would say that he's the entertainment robot, but robotics haven't got that far yet!
So, what is an entertainment robot?
An online definition describes it as a very sophisticated toy, which is kind of disappointing. The Tosy robot is a smaller version of their breakthrough, life-like, full-sized robot which can actually beat humans at ping-pong.
Too bad. It would be better if they could beat some humans at singing and dancing. But the Tosy robot is apparently just for cracking people up. How?
By doing comical pratfalls and putting on funny faces when its human owner puts a hand in front of their eyes. So, obviously, entertainment robots have a long way to go.
But with a big star like Justin Bieber introducing this new technology to the world, it shouldn't be too long until the Tosy company sells enough robots to make them do a whole lot more entertaining.
Just as long as they don't become self-aware, take down the electrical grid and enslave humanity for bio-food.
The beginning of the end of civilization starts on January 11th between 1-3 p.m. at the Tosy Robotics booth in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
