Justin Bieber Kissed By A Belieber in London

After a trip to Toronto Justin headed to London for promotion of his new book- "Justin Bieber- Just Getting Started".
He landed in London in a private jet and was scheduled to meed One Direction and especially Niall Horan, who is part of this British Boyband.
As he landed he got mobbed by hundreds of Beliebers, Paps, etc.
And this rush gave a lucky belieber chance to kiss Justin.
You Can See in this pic :

An overzealous fan, sporting a cheerful purple bow in her hair, planted a smooch on the 18-year-old pop star's cheek in London Wednesday
Justin seemed less than enthusiastic.
Justin as always was li'l bit rough to paps.
Is Out Justin Changing ??

Put on a happy face! Selena Gomez dons a cheery t-shirt as she visits a children's hospital in New Zealand with Justin Bieber!

Smiley, happy people: Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez cheered up sick children during a visit to a hospital in New Zealand today

Selena Gomez made an inspired fashion choice today as she donned a yellow smiley face t-shirt for a visit to a children's hospital.

Accompanying pop sensation boyfriend Justin Bieber, the Disney star was all smiles as the couple continued their tour of the Antipodes with a visit to Starship Hospital in Auckland during a promotional visit to New Zealand.

The 19-year-old managed to mix style with a sense of fun as she teamed the light-hearted top with a trendy studded denim shirt and skinny black jeans.

Canadian phenomenon Justin sported a white t-shirt under a sleeveless plaid shirt and waved to fans as the pair left the building.

Bieber has been an advocate for the Starship Foundation, calling on his fans to donate money in the launch of his Believe Charity Drive since November of last year.

The couple visited the sick children in advance of the teen's surprise show on Auckland's waterfront later this afternoon.

Bieber's New Zealand schedule has been kept under wraps, but he is expected to bungy jump rom the Auckland Harbour Bridge again -  as he did on his last visit in 2010  - followed by a showcase for around 200 fans on Auckland's waterfront.

The location and time of the concert are being kept top secret to avoid a mob of fans showing up.
Even those with tickets will not officially know where the concert is until later today.
Fans eagerly awaited his arrival from Australia at the Auckland airport last night but were disappointed when he avoided the main terminal.

Hopeful Beliebers also waited outside the Langham hotel this morning, the same place One Direction stayed in April, to catch a glimpse of the heartthrob.

The last time the teenage superstar was in New Zealand, a hysterical group of girls shoved his mother out of the way and stole his baseball cap causing speculation as to why he is reticent to appear.

Bieber is in New Zealand promoting his latest album, Believe, until Friday.

Justin Bieber makes time for mum on trip!

Justin Bieber reckons his family keeps him humble.
It might not be easy for a teenage music superstar to stay grounded but Bieber thinks it's possible if you're surrounded by the right people.
Interviewed on the Seven Network's Today Tonight program on Tuesday, he was asked what had been the best piece of advice he had received.

"I'd probably say, you know, just to stay humble and keep your family close, keep the people that were there at the beginning there, because those are the people who cared and care enough to stay with you," Bieber said.

"The relationship with my family, always I keep that first. Last time I was here (in Australia) my grandparents were here with me.
"You need to pull up your pants, that's what my grandparents say all the time.
"Like my mum, its always something. They are always super proud of me no matter what... That's what keeps me humble and I do this for them."
The promotional interview with Bieber did not include any tough questions, nor did it probe his personal life or his relationship with Selena Gomez.

The 18-year-old Canadian recorded two songs on Monday for an episode of Australia's Got Talent in Melbourne, where he was mobbed by fans, mostly teenage girls.
He will sing three songs on Seven's Sunrise in Sydney on Wednesday morning.
Bieber said his arrival in Australia this time had not been as frenzied as when he last visited because he was prepared.

Langham sources said Bieber was not staying with them this time, but
his fans were undeterred, saying they would wait all day.
Bieber will be in Australia for three days to promote his new album Believe.

Security is on lockdown with Bieber's record label Universal offering few details about the trip, which will include appearances on Australia's Got Talent, Sunrise and Channel [V].
Teenagers across the country have taken to Twitter to express their excitement, while the paparazzi is poised to pounce on Bieber as soon as he touches down in Australia.
"Guys it's really happening, after over a year Justin is coming back! Omg!" one fan Tweeted.
"10 hours and Justin is in the same country as me! Cannot contain my excitement ATM!!!!!" another fan wrote on the social networking site.

Last time the Canadian star visited in April 2010 it was pandemonium. A planned free concert, put on by the Seven Network's Sunrise program at Sydney's Circular Quay, was cancelled due to overcrowding.
As hordes of teens surged forward, things got so dangerous that Bieber pleaded with them to go home.
The television network is taking no chances this time, promising beefed up security to safeguard Bieber's Sunrise performance on Wednesday morning.

Oman Air's new Business and First Class lounges.

Oman Air have finally done something about the terrible lounges at Muscat International Airport. This article written by Business Traveller, shows a bunch of pictures, plus shares some details on the new lounges.

Items of note are:

First Class -

Limo transfers in Audi A8 vehicles
Bar
Showers
Lounges
A la Carte menu and chef

Business Class -

Bigger than current lounge
2 Chedi Spa massage rooms offering 15 minute treatments
Bar
Food buffet
5 computer terminals

The lounges should open next week, and will only be available to Oman Air passengers flying in those respective classes. Looks pretty neat!

Looking forward to checking out the business lounge soon!

Muscat International Airport MC3 awarded for RO 706 Million

Finally, after a Tender process of nearly 2 entire years, today the Tender board awarded the airport building contract (MC3) for RO 706 Million to the Contractor Bechtel. So here's a new logo to get used to seeing when driving past the airport:
What is strange about the award is that Bechtel were the most expensive of the three final Tenderers for the MC3 package, behind consortium's lead by CCC and J&P.

Now, I happen to currently be reading a book called "Confessions of an economic hitman" in which Bechtel are specifically being named as being a favoured Contractor with the US AID and similar aid organizations. Well worth a read if you have the time! Funnily enough, click here to see Bechtel's work in Iraq - the Client..... USAID!

Timing is a funny thing, sometimes. I wonder why Bechtel were awarded the job, when they were the highest of the three final tenderers? Technical expertise?

HM's special representative passed away & Muscat airport workers go on strike

If you happen to have been watching any of the Omani TV channels today, you will have noticed that they are broadcasting the Quran non-stop. This is because HH Sayyid Thuwaini bin Shihab passed away this morning.

The most senior member of the ruling family, Sayyid Thuwaini was a "Special Representative" of the Sultan and was listed next to HM in official line-ups. When the Sultan is absent, he chairs meetings of the cabinet or the specialised councils. A former Wali (governor) of Muscat, he was a key member of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council.

The Omani Flags will be flying at half-mast for the next 3 days as the nation mourns the loss. This has been quite a long time coming, as HH Sayyid Thuwaini has been out of the public eye for over a decade due to illness.

HH Sayyid Fahad has been named as the successor, and I suspect the papers tomorrow will be running this as their lead story with lots more information on both of the men.

In other news, an impromptu strike happened at the Muscat International Airport on Friday night. It appears that the baggage chuckers handlers got the hump because of non-payment of salaries and bonuses. The showed their dis-gruntledness by refusing to do their jobs late on Friday evening. About 5 flights were affected, and many people went home without their luggage. The administration at Muscat International Airport deserve a slap for the simple reason of not telling the passengers what was going on. No mention of a strike was made, in fact, no notifications were made at all. Presumably the line of thought was that if they say nothing, a few hundred people will just naturally assume that all of their bags vanished and they'll just go away, eventually.

Also, rather amusingly, the only paper to carry the story was the Muscat Daily with a small section. None of the other (English language) papers carried the story. As usual then.

It's England V Germany tonight. Hopefully ze Germanz will be seen off and dealt with swiftly by the boys in red. We'll see.

A slight update on the Intercon sports tent. The Intercon just rented the land to a third party company that is running the World Cup sports village. A RO 2.000 for entry fee, it was a pretty great idea. That is, of course, until the foolish management of the Sports village decided that selling alcohol to kids was a good idea. They were busted, and subsequently had their license removed. The only thing it's got to do with The Intercon, is that it's on Intercon land.

Oman's rail network.

Thanks to an anonymous reader who emailed me the picture below:

As you can see, there are 4 phases. Phase 1 being Muscat - Sohar, Phase 2 being Muscat - Al Duqm (thats a long stretch!); Phase 3 being Sohar to Al Ain, and Phase 4 being Sohar - Dibba.

That suggests a lot for Sohar! And Duqm - the line down to Duqum predicatably snakes down to Nizwa, but surprisingly shoots off to Ibra in a separate arm. Now that part of the country is still mountainous, and the cost of building that rail connection strikes me as a bit of a financial non-starter. Is Ibra a large importer of something? Does it export minerals or something? Surely it'd be more economical to truck it from Nizwa? Or a station closer to Ibra along the way to Duqm.

There's not much mention of the Salalah connection, but presumably that is in the works, or perhaps all things stop at Duqm for the time being?

In other news, Muscat Airport Main Contract 3 (MC3) is still not awarded. Addendum 4 was issued recently and there are still tendering Contractors in the race. Latest rumours say it's a three horse race between: Bactel, CCC - TAV (a Joint Venture), and J&P. Didn't that big thing in the news paper the other month say that it would be awarded by the end of June? I guess that's not happening then!

Enjoy the weekend everyone - I wonder if England will actually win their game tonight in the World Cup? kick off in less than 2 hours!

A little bit more on the Emergency at the Airport/Wave

Recently, a lot of us left Muscat for the Eid vacation. A lot of us decided to jump on a plane and go somewhere. Whilst having a drink with a friend recently, he repeated to me a story so colourful I might as well share it here.

Is it true? Who knows? Have I confirmed it? Hell no.

So take it with a pinch of salt, but perhaps there are elements of truth in it.

The Emergency Response test that was conducted recently at the end of The Wave development and had tons of people scared that there had indeed been a plane crash (rather unfortunately timed with the broken news story of the entire Oman Air Traffic Control system going wrong due to a rather unfortunate "rookie error" of a junior IT technician installing an update incorrectly).

Apparently, according to an overheard conversation on a plane journey during Eid, the entire event was secretly filmed and screened for HM live. The first ROP officer on scene, rather amusingly, got out of his car, took a look at the fire, and then promptly got in his car and drove off! HAHA! A comment was made about that particular officer breaking rocks before the end of the day.

Props to Muscat Jet Driver for the above graphic!

It appeared that the people having the discussion on the plane worked for, or were linked to in some way, a consultancy firm assessing the abilities of the Sultanates emergency services. In direct contradiction to the press reports, it was noted in this overheard conversation that the tests were, in fact, a complete failure, and that "more tests will be carried out in the next 12 months".

A wild and crazy number of up to 20 'tests' are supposed to be carried out here in the next 12-24 months. I think that's a bit over the top, but perhaps we'll see more emergency response tests in the coming months. The next test is rumoured to be a bomb (not a real bomb) being let off somewhere in the region. I'd say a good spot to do a test would be somewhere in the Ministries area in Wizarat.

I guess if it happens, then the rumour will turn out to be true!

Emergency at the Airport...

This morning a drill was held in The Wave site area for what to do if there's a plane crash. The Army ran the drill. Tyres were burned to simulate a crashed airplane and then the support services practiced what they'd do if there was an emergency. So Fire, Ambulance and the regular police all carried out roles in the exercise.

Update: Oman Air's website has published this exercise on their website, presumably as a part of the test.

In other news, the Australian football team arrived today ahead of tomorrow's match against Oman. They landed this morning and presumably saw the drill... heh.

The Muscat Magpies, the Aussie Rules football team here in Muscat, face down the Dubai Heat today at the Muscat Rugby Club's field at 3pm.

Thats all for now :)
